Receiving Feedback

We need other people’s feedback to make ourselves  better. But what many people fail to realize is that collecting feedback is only one step in a longer process of self-improvement.

The next two steps in the feedback loop, processing and responding, are must and not be forgotten. Feedback needs to be heard, yes; but it must also be digested and discussed.

Fulfilling all three steps is easy enough when the feedback is positive. But negative feedback is much more difficult to work with. While it can be deeply satisfying to dwell on positive remarks, people tend to recoil from criticism. It’s just not intuitive or natural to embrace negative feedback with open arms, so make sure you take the time to walk through all three steps.

Real feedback is a process, not a one-time event. If one want to improve, then receiving feedback has to be a continuous process to be imbibed.
